Mega church Evangelist Bishop Eddie Long, who pastors a congregation of about 25,000, finds himself in hot water following allegations he coerced several young men in his congregation, to engage in sexual activity.
Four young men ( Anthony Flagg, 21, Maurice Robinson, 20, Jamal Parris, 23, and unnamed plaintiff) filed lawsuits Tuesday September 21, 2010, in De Kalb County, Georgia, alleging Long used his status as pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, to coerce them into relationships when they were between the ages of 17 and 18. They claim he lavished them with expensive gifts and introduced them to famous celebrities like Tyler Perry, in exchange for the sexual favors.
Adding further fuel to the fire are the sexually suggestive cell phone photos (below)of Bishop Long in his bathroom, he allegedly sent to the young men in question.
Bishop Long finally addressed the allegations during Sunday morning worship, and vowed to "fight" them. During his sermon he was quoted as saying, "I'm not a perfect man but this thing I'm going to fight. I feel like David against Goliath but I've got five rocks and I haven't thrown one of them yet,"
Many of us originally brushed this scandal aside, believing it was only retaliation against the Bishop, for his strong stance against homosexuality. Of course ultimately no one besides the bishop, those four young men, and God really knows what happened. But amidst the photos that have emerged across the Internet, it's getting pretty hard to justify any of it.
